How to Dress Up Blank Walls

When it comes to interior decoration, it’s the little things that matter most – the pleasant smells, the way the colors fit together, how comfortable throw pillows are, and how soft the rug is. Having a beautiful and comfortable home is important, and one of the things that make it look so are the walls. Picking the color scheme is simple, what comes after that is what gives you a headache. We give you a brief list of useful interior design tips on how to pick the best details for the walls of your home, from wallpapers to wall clocks. Image source: wegoracing.com

1. Inspiring Shelves

Shelves and bookshelves are one of the easiest ways to decorate your walls. Not only are they pretty, but they are convenient at the same time because they allow you to display things you love and/or collect. If you’re proud of your rock collection, why not display it for your guests to see? The same goes for your book collection or different memorabilia you brought home with you when you were travelling. You don’t have to use plain old wooden shelves, there are so many innovative designs today that you’ll easily find something you like – honeycomb-shaped, made of glass, or styled so they look like scales or trees.

2. Photo Walls

When was the last time you took an old photo album and went through your old photos? Even though very few of us do this now, we still like to take photos and love to look at the old ones made by our parents or cousins. Why not take the photos out of the albums and display them proudly on your walls? That’s a lovely way to always have your loved ones close by – to hang their photos on the walls. You don’t have to go through trouble of finding a lot of identical frames because you can easily combine different frames so that they give a lovely mosaic. Make different shapes out of frames such as hearts and rectangles, and you can even paint a tree on the wall and hang photos so that they resemble leaves.

3. Peculiar Details

While photos and shelves are a more traditional way to decorate your walls, you can go a step further and use some peculiar details instead. Why not display your favorite instrument you no longer use or frame a piece of your grandfather’s uniform and keep it in the living room? You can also choose peculiar wall clocks that have motives of your favorite TV show, and hang differently shaped small mirrors everywhere, so they reflect the sunlight. If you love flowers, you can turn ordinary mason jars into lovely vases and mount them on walls, so there are fresh flowers everywhere you look. If you’re not using them as vases, you can put small candles inside and create a romantic atmosphere without fearing that something will catch fire.

4. Wallpapers

Wallpapers are making a comeback, and people are falling in love with them all over again. Still, if you have a hard time deciding which ones would be best for you and your home, you can always opt for wall stickers instead. These are easy to use and come in so many shapes, sizes, and styles that you will quickly find the design you love. There are small stars, letters, and huge watercolor magnolias which you can pair perfectly with the color of your walls. Image source: homesthetics.net
You might hesitate to make drastic moves and combine different colors or styles, but this will backfire and you’ll get stuck with boring drywall that says nothing about you. Express yourself through colors and tasteful details, and don’t hesitate to improvise and combine things you might not have thought about combining before. You never know what you might like until you give it a try.
